Going to the fair

Entrance to the Chorrera fair grounds.

I just had the opportunity to attend a local agricultural fair in the Panamanian town of Chorrera. We three gringas went during the day as the other two knew from experience it would be crowded and extremely noisy in the evening when the midway, food and drink booths, and disco got into full swing. One lady brought ear plugs for us anyway, just in case.

All the cattle we saw were Brahmins, known for heat tolerance.

We enjoyed seeing the prize cattle which seemed the only farm animals except for one goat in a cage. There was a traditional mud and straw house with a photo display of how it was built. Beside it food was being cooked and smoked over a wood fire.

The sausages and strips of meat appear to be getting smoked in the wood fire.

Displays by government agricultural departments focused on research projects with various plant crops plus one with tilapia.

Pineapples are grown in Panama.

Gourds, I believe.

Watermelons are in season and for sale at the fair.

Hand made furniture and Panama’s famous fabric art, the mola, were for sale. The woman who sold me one agreed to have her photo taken with me.
